Regional Development VictoriaWine Industry Forum Accessing Bank Funds & Valuing Wineries in the Current Global Economic Climate3.00pm-5.00pm, 16th July 2009 Level 46, 55 Collins Street, Melbourne This seminar is designed to assist Victorian wineries gain an understanding of the current global economic situation, why it is difficult to access finance and how winery valuations are undertaken in a rapidly changing environment where investors are risk adverse. There will also be an opportunity for wineries to spend one on one time with bank representatives.
The seminar will take place in the following format: 1. Professor Deborah Ralston will provide an overview of the current global financial crisis 2. Sam Paton will deliver a presentation on how winery valuations are affected by the current global recession and the things wineries should be focusing on if they wish to sell their properties in the near future 3. A Panel of bank representatives will answer questions from Victorian winery Speaker Profiles Professor Deborah Ralston, Acting Director, Melbourne Centre for Financial Studies and Professor of Finance at Monash University Professor Deborah Ralston is Acting Director of the Melbourne Centre for Financial Studies and a Professor of Finance at Monash University. She has published widely in financial regulation, institutions and markets. Deborah is a Fellow of the AICD, Finsia and ASCPA and is a Director of the listed company Mortgage Choice.
Sam Paton, Sam Paton & Associates Sam Paton is Senior Valuer and Ag. Economist with Sam Paton & Associates, Australia’s only dedicated National Agribusiness Valuation Consultancy. Major clients include De Bortoli Wines, Wingara Wine Group, Brown Brothers, Lion Nathan (Petaluma) and Orlando Wyndham. Sam’s family has been involved with the wine industry since 1877 via the former family merchant wine business “Seabrook Wines”, Melbourne.
