HALFLYTELY BOWEL PREP INSTRUCTIONS

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THIS ENTIRE SHEET BEFORE YOU BEGIN
PREP DAY (The day before the procedure)Do NOT eat any solid food this day. CLEAR LIQUIDS ONLY.
A clear liquid diet will consist of strained fruit juices without pulp (apple, white grape, white cranberry, and lemonade)Water, fat free clear chicken/beef broth or bouillon. Coffee/Tea without milk/nondairy creamer. Diet/Regular sodas.
Gatorade, 7Up, Sprite, ginger ale, vanilla or banana Ensure. Jell-O and Popsicles, sherbert. Hard candy (as long as you do NOT chew it) DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING THAT IS RED, BLUE, or PURPLE ( These colors can look like blood in the colon and can interfere with a proper diagnosis) In the morning, on the day before the procedure, add a flavor packet and lukewarm water to the top line on the HALFLYTELY bottle. Shake to dissolve the powder. Place the bottle in the refrigerator. (the colder the solution the better the taste) Patients NOT working the day of the bowel prep:
12:00 (noon) – Take 2 Bisacodyl tablets with a glass of water. DO NOT chew or crush the tablets – swallow whole. YOUR FIRST BOWEL MOVEMENT SHOULD NOT TAKE PLACE FOR AT LEAST 1 HOUR.
6:00 pm – Begin to drink the HALFLYTELY solution. Drink 1 (8oz) glass every 10 minutes (about 8 glasses) until all of the contents have been consumed. Rapid drinking is preferred. It will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to drink the solution.
Patients working the day of bowel prep:
8:00 pm – Begin to drink the HALFLYTELY solution. Follow the instructions as listed above.
On The Day Of Your Procedure:
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING until the procedure is over. You will need to use 1 fleet enema 1 hour before
your scheduled arrival time. If you live more that 1 hour away you will need to bring the enema with you.
You
may take any heart or blood pressure medication with a sip of water. Please bring a list of your current medications with
you to the procedure.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER 10 DAYS BEFORE YOUR COLONOSCOPY:
You MUST stop taking aspirin, aspirin products, and aspirin like products 5-7 days prior to your Colonoscopy.
Why? These products can prevent your blood from clotting. Aspirin products come under the names Bayer, Anacin,
Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn, and headache powders.
The ONLY thing you may take for pain is Tylenol
Blood Thinners:
If you are taking blood thinners such as coumadin and our physicians have not discussed exactly how
to take at least 10 days before your procedure, call the office at 859-263-0022 for instructions

ave a licensed driver to drive you home . You will be sedated for the procedure and unable to safely
drive yourself home. If you do not have a licensed driver, your procedure will be cancelled. You will be able to return to
your normal activities the following day. This does not include public transportation or taxi services.
