La Biographie: Roger St-Denis is a multidisciplinary artist who arrived in Toronto from Montréal by Voyageur Colonial Bus Line in 1980 with very little English and nothing but a tooth brush and an extra T-shirt in his knapsack. He had been groomed to be a Concert Pianist from the age of eight and had just finished his Post Secondary Music Studies at CEGEP St-Laurent, (Montréal), University of Ottawa and with Paul Bempechat (of the Julliard School of Music). When he arrived in Ontario, he stopped music altogether for 3 years, working as a truck driver, a bookstore clerk and a French teacher. But when he met Electric Violinist Christophe Hermann, who revealed and shared with Roger his vast musical library (including enchanting ECM recordings), it was an epiphany. Art would prevail. St-Denis rededicated his life to music, this time focusing on Music Composition and became assistant to film composer Paul Hoffert (Lighthouse). He soon went on to score his own music soundtracks for numerous films and television series (CBC’s long-running Adrienne Clarkson Presents was an early highlight). He currently has over 1,000 SOCAN registered works to his credit for PBS, TVO, TFO, HGTV, and the Life Network. He was the Canadian Winner for the theme song contest L’Hymne des Jeux de la Francophonie International Games, and is a recipient of the prestigious Prix Marcel Blouin, awarded by the CBC for Best Recording of the Year. Performers on his soundtracks include Toots Thielemans, Carol Welsman, Moe Koffman, The Faith Chorale, Hugh Marsh, Kim & Jackie Richardson and European French star Natasha St-Pier. Over the years, passion for A/V and Electronics has also led him to be involved “hands- on” in the design of recording spaces and to be hired on several Film & TV projects as Producer/Director for his Film company Perception Media. Le Plaisir: As part of this wonderful journey, St-Denis has raised two sons Dominik and Mikhail. He still runs 20km and plays hockey twice a week. Golf, Mathematics, Tennis and Traveling remain obsessions, and lately, Painting & Photography have become a fascination.
